WELCOME TO UNDERGROUND ZERO
Push the Angle. Tell the Story. Make your Mark.
Push the Angle. Tell the Story. Make your Mark.
1. What is Underground Zero?
In story, Underground Zero is a wrestling school/small independent promotion based out of Atlanta, Georgia. It was formed following the collapse of the global promotion GZW2K1 in late 2015 / early 2016 when that promotion decided to move away from a wrestling based-product and move towards movies and other forms of entertainment.
GZW2K1 had a wrestling school called Trouble Trax, which of course had no place in its new plans. It was bought at auction by three of GZW2K1's most well known talents, Nathaniel Davis (handled by Tate), Nate Williams (handled by Nate) and Jon Kellar (handled by Jon). The three of them are all members of GZW2K1's Ring of Honor (and before anyone scoffs, ours is older, by several years!)
Together they oversaw the birth of a new, independent wrestling promotion named Underground Zero.
2. How does it work?
We are what is usually called an "angle based" e-federation, but what we're really interested in is the story, which we call "The Saga".
Factoring in GZW2K1's history, the Saga has been going for almost two decades. To put that in perspective, our story has lasted longer than WCW did, and in that time we've had stories and characters that would put the best (and worst) of WCW and WWE to shame.
The creation of Underground Zero is conceived as a "soft-reboot", retaining our proud history but focussing more on telling new ones in a new setting. What we want to do is continue the narrative in a new way, and we want all handlers, new and old, to have a fun time doing it.
We're non-competitive, so we don't want you to RP to death. We want you to tell your characters story and add to the narrative.
3. How many shows do you run?
Underground Zero works on what we believe is a unique structure among efedding. We don't follow the classic WWE structure of "TV-TV-TV-TV-PPV", but instead we have Chapters. Each Chapter has a synopsis posted at the start of it (it's the bit in red at the top of the Saga board) and that synopsis forms the central thread of that particular chapter. Characters come in and tell their story within that narrative, feuds develop, and at the end of a Chapter we have a Supercard to bring it all home. We aim to do one of these every other month, though some times Real Life gets in the way.
However, we also have "Underground" broadcasts; House Shows broadcast over the internet. The matches are shorter and there's usually fewer of them, but they all help to push the story. These shows are as important a part of the narrative as an RP, so it is worth getting an on-card segment onto these shows to help push your character. If you want to, you can even write a match and submit it. Anything to help push your character.
4. If it's non competitive, how do you win?
For us, matches are part of the narrative structure rather than the conclusion of it. Just because you lose a match doesn't mean that we don't like you, nor does that it mean you will not be pushed.
Whereas some might see a post-match beat down as evidence that your RPs weren't good enough, for us it's about seeing how your character comes back from it. Does he turn tail and run, or does he come out at the next show and rail on his enemies?
A heel cheats his way to victory against your face character in a Championship match, does that mean he RPed better than you? NO!
Does it mean we think you're not good enough to be champion? NO!
It means we want you to bite, scratch and crawl your way back to the top. Show us what being champion means to your character.
Every hero has his flaws, every good story has its ups and downs, and everyone is given a chance to shine here. We don't believe in burying characters, because it doesn't do the story any good!
5. Who chooses feuds and who decides the outcomes?
That's the great thing about this federation, we want you to be the creative force of your own character. We don't want to write your character's story, we want you to do it. We want you to carve out your own piece of the Saga.
How do you do that? Well, here's a few suggestions:
- Planning - If you're feuding with someone, get together on twitter or Skype and map out the feud.
- Dual RPs - these are a great and utterly underused mechanism. Two handlers get together and interact to plan ambushes and alliances.
- Insult Each-Other on Twitter - If your character doesn't have a Twitter account, we recommend getting one. It's great fun!
- Matches on House shows - Not booked? Don't let that stop you. There's plenty of jobbe... I mean, wrestling students available to pummel if you so wish. They've got to start somewhere!
- On-Card Segments - Do an interview on an Underground broadcast or a Supercard, even if you're not booked.
In short, the more you put in, the more you get out.
We will choose the outcome of the matches that we write, but when we write those matches we will make sure that both (or more) competitors come out looking great, regardless of the outcome. Again, if you lose, it doesn't mean you won't be pushed.
6. What are our RP requirements?
There are no quotas nor limits, all we ask is that you contribute something significant to the story on a regular basis. If that's one RP a week, so be it. If it's less, that's okay too.
Just give us something to work with when the Supercards roll around; we want to be able to make sure your match reflects the work you've done.
7. Are there any rules?
There's a few:
- No real world wrestlers nor blatant knock offs.
- No homophobia, racism, xenophobia, sexism or anything remotely similar in the OOC sections. This is entirely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I shouldn't need to say this but we have had to "fire" a handler in the past for his attitude towards women, so I'm taking every precaution. This is a place of fun and frivolity, not hate.
- If you must use such things in an RP context, then make sure it is justified within the narrative and by your character, and even then consider just how necessary it really is. These are not just fictional concepts, these are things people (including members of this federation) have to deal with in real life.
- No complaining if you lose a match. Everything happens for a reason, and remember we are a story-driven federation. If you lose a match it does not mean we dislike you or you won't be pushed. If you have questions about our decision, then contact us via the boards and we may be able to give you some ideas about where to go from here.
- No complaining if a show is late. Nate has a family and a full time job, I have a full time job as a lawyer and I'm in the UK competing with time difference, and Tate has long and varied working hours and enough children and grandchildren to form a competitive tag team division. We do everything we can to get shows up on time but sometimes we miss it. Trust us, it's usually worth the wait!
- We have inter-gender matches. It's something we've always done, and it's something we will continue to do. They are handled sensitively (we do not have men leaving women in puddles of blood having beaten them repeatedly with fists) and we have a long proud history of strong female characters competing on an equal footing with their male counterparts. We will not force you to be part of an inter-gender feud if you do not wish to be, but it will reduce your story/opponent options.
- Remember always: Push the Angle. Tell your Story. Make your mark.
