The cool air washed over her body as she ran down the long road. Dressed in a bright pink hoodie and gray yoga pants Amanda brushed off the cold as it struck her. Her long brown hair waved in the breeze despite the light brown cap that covered her head. The sun could be seen rising off in the distance casting a small amount of light on her as cars raced by. She truly loved getting out and running before the sun came up. It always gave her time alone with her thoughts, something she feared as of late. Feelings and memories from days long past raced through her mind almost daily, some even bringing her to tears in the process. She did her best to force those thoughts out but no matter how hard she tried she couldn't. She was a fighter, a warrior, and yet her memories were her weakness.
She stopped running and bent over at the waist her hands resting on her knees. She did her best to catch her breath but oddly enough she was struggling to do so. Anxiety attack? She'd never had one before but it sure felt like she was having one now. She closed her eyes and tried to clear her thoughts hoping to bring an end to the attack but no luck. Deep breaths followed as she stood up straight trying to relieve the pressure and burning in her lungs finally finding a small amount of relief.
“What the hell?”
Her breathing finally slowed as tears filled her eyes. She wiped them away, refusing to give in to her thoughts. Thoughts of disappointment, thoughts of failure, thoughts of inadequacy. She was better than this. She had to be better than this. She was a fighter and fighters don't quit. She shook her head and took off running towards the sunrise. She still had several miles to go before she finished, before she could give in to her fears.

A younger Amanda sat quietly in the front seat of a battered brown pickup truck. She wasn't alone as a young man sat in the driver seat next to her looking out his window. It was dark and quiet, the streetlights barely lighting up the young couple.
“Sure is quiet here.”
“It's almost midnight Brad what do you expect? Most people are home in bed right now. Why did you drag me out here anyways? What couldn't wait till tomorrow?”
He opened his jacket pocket and pulled out a bottle of amber liquid.
“Brad I've already drank more than I'm used to. I know I'm gonna regret this night in the morning when I wake up.”
“All the more reason to have a drink with me.”
“Or not. Seriously Brad what are we doing out here?”
He took a big drink from the bottle before handing it over to Amanda who simply held it.
“I'm leaving tomorrow and I want you to come with me.”
“Are you serious? Brad I love you but I've got an interview with GLORY this week I can't miss. I'm seriously on the verge of big things and I can't screw that up. I've been busting my ass over the past few years for this chance. I can't just throw it all away.”
He took the bottle away from her hands and took another drink. The cold air filled the truck causing the windows to fog slightly.
“Then I guess this is goodbye because I can't stay here anymore. I've got to go.”
He took another drink before having the bottle ripped from his hands by Amanda. She looked into his eyes, searching for the man she loved only to see emptiness.
“Please don't leave me. I need you.”
Tears filled her eyes as she looked at the bottle, finally taking a drink. She forced her eyes closed as the amber liquid burned all the way down.
“Love me one more time Amanda. Love me like that first night.”
Tears continued to roll down her cheeks as she shook her head yes. She loved him and would bend over backwards for him. But she couldn't give up her dream, he wouldn't allow it no matter what he said. The two kissed one another fiercely in the front of the truck as Amanda unzipped her light blue hoodie and took it off revealing only a pale pink bra underneath. The kissing became more intent as she climbed into his lap before blue lights suddenly filled the cab stopping the two lovers from going further.
“Shit Amanda they're gonna get me for a DUI. I can't deal with this right now. My parents will kill me and I'll never get out of here.”
His sentence is cut off by a flashlight shining on the back of his head and a hard knock on the driver side window.
“I need you to roll down your window sir and talk to me. Ma'am I need you to put some clothes on.”
She nodded her head as she put her hoodie back on and zipped it up. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and slipped down in the seat trying desperately to disappear. How could this night get any worse? Brad looked at Amanda and answered her thoughts.
“I'm not going to jail.”
Fear filled her eyes.
“Brad don't please. My dad…”
She couldn't finish her sentence before the driver side door swung open and Brad launched himself at the officer knocking him to the ground. He quickly got to his feet and took off leaving Amanda alone in the truck.
Before she could react her door swung open startling her putting her on the defensive. Fear filled her as she pushed the officer away and kicked at him. She climbed out and attempted to flee but was grabbed from behind keeping her in place. Desperate to get away she reached back and grabbed a handful of his crotch and squeezed breaking the grip around her. With the arms no longer around her she released her grip and again attempted to run.
Unsure of where she even was mixed in with the alcohol caused her to stumble and dive face first into a pile of mud. Before she could react the officer was on her again this time with handcuffs quickly securing her arms behind her back.
“I'm so sorry. Please don't kill me whoever you are.”
“Ma'am you're under arrest how about we start with that?”
The alcohol had dulled her senses making it difficult to even process what was going on. Off in the distance she heard scuffling and shouting. Additional officers had shown up within seconds and were desperately trying to secure Brad who fought for his life. Amanda dropped to her knees in tears before being pulled back to her feet and rushed towards the backseat of a nearby cruiser. The slamming door caused her to cry even harder making it impossible to see what was going on around her.
The sound of a body being slammed against the front windshield caught her attention. She looked hard to see Brad pressed against the windshield still fighting, dried blood covering his face. His blood? It was hard to tell but probably a mixture of his and at least one of the officers. The driver side door opened up as an officer took a seat followed by several deep breaths.
“I'm so sorry sir. I...I...I don't know what came over me. My dads gonna kill me. Oh God what have I done?”
Tears ran down her face as she cried like never before. The officer lowered his head and shook it off still trying to calm himself down.
“One step at a time okay? First things first let's get you processed in then we'll talk.”
She nodded before leaning her head back, tears still falling from her eyes. It only took one night to ruin her future.

“Before we get too involved I feel like I should address the elephant in the room. Or perhaps the waste of space in the room. In case you're missing out on the context clues Jaz I'm talking about you. What were you hoping to achieve by jumping me as I entered the arena? That you'd somehow get some upper hand and beat me into submission? That when all was said and done I'd beg for you to stop beating on me?"
"Jaz nothing you could have done or will do could cause either of those situations to happen. I mean, go ahead and flirt or try to convince people you're special or that you matter on Twitter. Do I flirt? Of course, but in the end we're apples and tomatoes. People look for me and don't mind being caught holding a delicious apple. Now as for you, you're okay as a garnish or enhancer but that's it. You'll never be more than that."
"Jaz when you attacked me you showed just how weak you are. You showed me and everyone else just how inadequate you really are. You claim to stick up for your family name? You think you're fighting to protect the name Davis or somehow stand up for your older brother? Jaz you're an embarrassment to your name. You bring shame on the Davis name more than anything. Don't worry Jaz you'll get your shot at me eventually but it'll be on my time. I don't answer to you, you answer to me.”
Amanda’s eyes never left the camera as she spoke. The young woman seemed confident in her words, as if what she said was gospel truth. Dressed in tight grey yoga pants and a white tank top Amanda stood inside an empty ring at the UGZ Trax.
“First things first and that’s you Alex. We go way back and I’d be lying if I said you hadn’t helped me out a lot over the last few months since my breakup. You and Lady Munin have pulled me out of some shitty situations and I could never thank either of you enough. Yet when that bell sounds you’re nothing to me. Once that bell rings you’re the same guy who stood me up at Thanksgiving last year. The same guy who turned his back on me when I needed him most last year. The same guy I would have given my all for and yet had it thrown in my face like I was some damn groupie. That’s what I’ll see Friday and nothing else. I won’t see Alex my friend I’ll see Alex the asshole. I’ll apologize now because after our match you’ll never look at me the same again.”
“Hunter I haven’t overlooked you Mr. Crank Champion. You were given the keys to the kingdom and you chose to throw them in the garbage. The Samson Family had welcomed you with open arms and yet here we stand. You will be paying a very serious fine for your betrayal Hunter. A fine that will cost you that title and perhaps even your career. You had your opportunity and now it’s time to pay for your stupidity.”
She shrugged her small shoulders as she stepped to the ring ropes and leaned on them.
“I wish I could say more about you Konrad. Unfortunately I don’t know much about you outside of the fact for some reason Joshua can’t stand you or your trainer. That’s none of my business why he doesn’t like you though. You’ll be placed in front of me and you’ll fall alongside your comrades in arms. Guess you just drew the short straw.”
She took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment.
“Let it be known though that if nothing else I’m fair. I don’t hide behind smoke and mirrors and I don’t play the slight of hand trick. You want to know what motivates me right now? You wanna know why I get out of bed and do what I do? Hunter look at that title around your waist and know that you and you alone are what gets me going right now.”
“I’ve questioned a lot of things in my life lately. Hell I’ve even wondered why I do what I do. When I look in the mirror and see the face looking back at me sometimes I don’t even recognize the person looking back at me. Then I think about you and that title Hunter and it all becomes clear again why I climb inside this ring. I hope you like what you see because this is a face you’ll be seeing plenty of until I get my hands on that title.”
She dropped to the mat and rolled under the bottom rope before heading towards the showers.
